What learning environment do you thrive in?
For Aidan, who studied for a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Theatre Studies, practical experiences helped him learn in a way no textbook could.
I knew I wanted to study acting but to learn and focus, for me, meant papers in which I could learn on my feet, learn by doing and then discuss the results. All of the papers in Theatre Studies had a hands-on appeal, with plenty of variety and diversity. The main lecture theatre being an actual running theatre was also a great buzz and provided a really safe space to explore and create.

Campus life
Otago’s compact campus was a draw for Aidan.
”I was looking to study theatre somewhere that was more low-key than a large bustling city, and Otago’s campus felt like a great place to grow and experience the intriguing city. Also the distance from home offered a kind of freedom that felt very exciting at 18 years old, straight out of secondary school. I wanted to learn in a fresh space, with fresh faces, in a city I’d never been to before.”

Career Success
After finishing his degree, Aidan took an acting course at the Actors’ Program in Auckland. Since then, he’s performed at the Basement Theatre, art festivals and on television.
